He pledged to move away from the old approach where people view tax collectors as intimidating figures and instead work towards a system where people willingly pay their taxes. Okeke’s immediate goal is to establish a system that efficiently collects both tax and non-tax revenues while preventing any financial leakages. In the medium term, he aims to create a system that encourages people to voluntarily comply with tax regulations and ensures that everyone in Imo State contributes to taxation.

In terms of boosting the state’s revenue, Okeke plans to enforce the collection of outstanding taxes and send assessment notices to taxpayers for the current year. He is determined to bring more businesses, especially those in the informal sector, into the tax system through a process of enumeration, quick resolution of issues between the tax authority and unions/associations, and encouraging their members to start paying taxes. Additionally, he is committed to ensuring that all tax revenues are deposited into the state’s Treasury Single Account.

Okeke has a strong resolve to swiftly turn things around, aligning with the governor’s goals. He intends to make use of the existing revenue laws and harness technology to enhance revenue collection.
