Musa Adamu Aliyu Career And Appointment

President Bola Tinubu has chosen Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, who currently serves as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Jigawa State, to be the new Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Additionally, Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu has been appointed as the commission’s secretary. These appointments were announced by the Presidency in a statement on Tuesday.

The President’s decision to make these appointments is based on the powers vested in him under Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The appointments align with the Renewed Hope mandate to reform key institutions and strengthen Nigeria’s efforts against corruption. However, they are still subject to approval by the Nigerian Senate.

The new Chairman of the ICPC will undergo confirmation proceedings in the Nigerian Senate, following the outgoing Chairman’s request to commence pre-end of tenure leave, starting on November 4, 2023. His tenure was set to expire on February 3, 2024.

In contrast, the position of Secretary to the Commission doesn’t require Senate confirmation. Therefore, the appointment of Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Commission’s Secretary takes immediate effect.

The President has called upon the new ICPC management to maintain the highest standards of integrity and impartiality in their work, addressing all matters without bias and in the best interest of the nation.
