Claude Mashego: Miss World South Africa 2023 winner

The Miss World South Africa competition was held at the State Theatre in Pretoria on Saturday. It was hosted by Minnie Dlamini. Dr. Claude Mashego won the competition and will go on to represent South Africa at the Miss World pageant next year.

Claude Mashego, a 24-year-old medical doctor from Acornhoek, Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, holds a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pretoria.

Dr. Claude Mashego, will represent South Africa at the Miss World pageant in India next March. She secured this opportunity after winning the first-ever Miss World South Africa pageant held at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

The event was hosted by Minnie Dlamini and featured a red-carpet show presented by Lunga Shabalala and Yaya Mavundla, which was broadcast on SABC3 before the main show. The main show was also broadcast internationally on The Africa Channel. During the red carpet event, former Miss World South Africa title holder and judge, Rolene Strauss, announced that she is expecting her third child.

SABC3, after securing the broadcast rights for the Miss South Africa pageant for the first time in 23 years, aims to establish itself as the go-to channel for pageantry in South Africa.

At the recent Miss South Africa pageant, 12 finalists competed to represent South Africa at the 2024 Miss World pageant. The event featured multiple appearances by the contestants, including various designer outfits and performances by artists like Mthandazo Gatya, Unathi Nkayi, and Jimmy Dludlu.

During the evening, Minnie Dlamini also recorded a video message wishing the Springboks good luck in the Rugby World Cup final that night. Julia Morley, Chair and CEO of the Miss World Organization, attended the event and emphasized South Africa’s participation in the global pageant alongside over 140 other countries.

The top five finalists included Claude Mashego, Motheo Mokoto, Asande Mchunu, Zoalise Jansen van Rensburg, and Alyssa Joan Smith. Jansen Van Rensburg was the first runner-up, and Smith was crowned second runner-up.

Miss World 2022, Karolina Bielawska of Poland, crowned Claude Mashego as the official winner of Miss World South Africa 2023. During the competition, Mashego expressed her commitment to building a network of young leaders and community builders across South Africa and Africa through her non-profit organization, the Young Leaders Network. She shared her vision of uniting young people from different regions to contribute to Africa’s growth.
